Patient App Terms
The terms for using the Medly app to see the records your clinics keep about you.
The short version
- The app shows records your clinics keep. Your clinic, not Medly, is responsible for your care and your record.
- The app is not for emergencies and does not give medical advice.
- Dose reminders are worked out from what you record in the app. Always follow your prescriber, pharmacist and the medicine label.
- Keep your phone and sign-in private. Anyone who opens your app can see your records.
- The app is free for patients.
About the App
The Medly app is provided by Vertex Labs Ltd (“Medly”, “we”, “us”). It lets you see information that clinics using Medly keep about you, once you have linked the app to your record at the clinic. By using the app you agree to these terms.
The app is free for patients. Your clinic pays for Medly.
Not Medical Advice
In an emergency, call 112 (or 999 in Kenya) or go to the nearest hospital. Do not use the app.
The app shows what your clinic has recorded. It does not diagnose, give medical advice or replace talking to a doctor, nurse or pharmacist. If something in your record worries you or looks wrong, ask your clinic. Any reminders the app gives are there to help you, but you remain responsible for taking medicine as your clinician told you.
Medicine Reminders
The app can remind you when a dose is due. Reminders are a convenience, not a prescription, and they are only as accurate as what you record.
- For medicines taken every few hours, the next reminder is counted from the moment you tap Taken. Tap it only when you have actually taken the dose. If you tap it late, early, or without taking the dose, the next reminder will be at the wrong time.
- Times are worked out from what your clinic recorded, or what you entered for medicines you added yourself. If they differ from the instructions your prescriber or pharmacist gave you, or from the medicine’s label, follow those instructions and ask your clinic to correct the record.
- If you miss a dose, do not take two doses to make up for it unless your prescriber or pharmacist tells you to. If you think you have taken too much of a medicine, get medical help straight away: call 112 (or 999 in Kenya) or go to the nearest hospital.
- Reminders can be late or not appear if your phone is off, its clock is wrong, notifications are turned off, or the phone limits apps in the background.
You are responsible for taking your medicine as prescribed. To the extent the law allows, Medly is not responsible for harm that results from doses recorded inaccurately in the app, from taking medicine against your prescriber’s or pharmacist’s instructions, or from a reminder that did not arrive.
Your Account
- You must be 18 or older to have your own account. A parent or guardian may manage a child’s record where the clinic allows it.
- Use details that are true and your own. Do not sign in as anyone else.
- Keep your phone locked and your sign-in private. Anyone who opens the app on your phone can see your records. If you lose your phone, tell us at hospitals@medly.africa.
Your Clinics and Records
- Each clinic owns and is responsible for the records it keeps about you. Medly stores and shows them on the clinic’s behalf.
- You link the app to a clinic’s record yourself, and you can unlink it. Clinics you link see your allergies, diagnoses, medicines and lab results from each other so they can treat you safely. Doctors’ notes stay with each clinic. You can turn sharing off in the app at any time.
- To correct something in your record, ask the clinic that wrote it. Medly cannot change clinic records.
- What you add yourself, such as medicines you bought, is yours. Clinics you are linked to can see it and may keep a copy in your record.
Using the App Fairly
Do not try to see other people’s records, break or overload the app, copy it, or use it for anything unlawful. If you do, we may close your account.
Your Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights. We never sell your records or anything that identifies you, and we do not show ads.
Stopping
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. Deleting your app account does not delete the records your clinics keep, because they need them to care for you and the law may require them to keep them. Ask each clinic if you want something removed.
Our Responsibility
We work hard to keep the app working and your records accurate as your clinic entered them, but we cannot promise it will always be available. We are not responsible for decisions made by your clinic, for losses caused by relying on the app instead of your clinician, or for the matters set out under Medicine Reminders. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer or data protection law of the country you live in.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Lagos State can hear any dispute. If you live in Kenya, you can also bring a dispute in the Kenyan courts and complain to Kenya’s Data Protection Commissioner.
